An approach to whole-person healing

If you’ve ever felt like your symptoms were being treated, but you weren’t — you’re not alone. Maybe you’ve bounced from specialist to specialist, only to be handed another prescription or told “your labs look fine.” Functional medicine offers a different path. One that’s rooted in curiosity, centered around your unique story, and focused on getting to the root cause, not just managing symptoms.

What Is Functional Medicine?

Functional medicine is a personalized, systems-based approach to health that looks at the whole person — not just isolated symptoms. It seeks to understand the why behind your health challenges by exploring the interconnectedness of your body, lifestyle, environment, and even emotional well-being.

Where traditional medicine often asks “What diagnosis fits these symptoms?”, functional medicine asks:

“What imbalances are creating these symptoms — and what do you need to return to balance?”

Functional medicine matters because:

  • It treats the root cause, not just the surface.

  • It acknowledges the mind-body connection.

  • It recognizes that you are unique — genetically, biologically, emotionally, and spiritually.

  • It prioritizes prevention, not just reaction.

  • It empowers you to be an active participant in your healing.

Symptoms aren’t the problem — they’re messengers. When we listen to them with curiosity instead of fear, healing becomes possible.

A Functional Medicine Approach Might Explore:

  • Gut health & digestion

  • Hormonal imbalances

  • Sleep patterns

  • Stress & nervous system regulation

  • Environmental toxin exposure

  • Nutrient deficiencies

  • Inflammation & immune response

  • Emotional patterns and trauma

  • Lifestyle habits and relationships

Lab Testing That is Highly Recommended

D.U.T.C.H. test

The DUTCH test provides a complete picture of your hormone health by measuring sex hormones, adrenal hormones, and their metabolites. It helps uncover imbalances related to stress, energy, sleep, mood, fertility, and overall hormonal function, giving valuable insight into root causes of symptoms like fatigue, PMS, and weight fluctuations.

Traditional blood tests measure only total levels of certain hormones at a single point in time. Since our hormones are always fluctuating, it doesn’t show the full picture of how your body is producing, using, and clearing hormones.

GI Map

The GI-MAP is a comprehensive stool test that evaluates the balance of bacteria, yeast, parasites, and viruses in your gut. It also looks at digestive function and markers of inflammation. This test helps identify root causes of issues like bloating, IBS, skin problems, fatigue, and immune challenges by showing how well your gut microbiome is functioning.

HTMA

HTMA measures the levels of essential minerals and toxic metals stored in your body by analyzing a small sample of hair. It provides insight into your metabolic rate, stress response, adrenal function, and potential heavy metal exposure. This test helps guide personalized recommendations for nutrition, detoxification, and overall energy balance.
